VR Training for Service and Maintenance Technicians

VR Simulation Safety Training and Assessment for Novice Technicians.

Full-Stack XR Specialist

Individually Executed Design, Art and Development.

Evaluation System

Prototyped an assessment system for VR training.

Phased Improvements

Initial traction led to expanded scope with an extended team.

Context

Industrial service and maintenance technicians face critical on-the-job safety hazards and life-threatening situations. It, thus becomes extremely important for novice technician to get access to training beforehand.

Requirement

Took complete ownership of the project to deliver a functional, immersive safety training simulation. My tasks involved research, design and development phases-creating technical architecture, environment design, systems programming, instructional design, etc.. among other tasks.

Solution

The simulation allowed a trainee to explore the hazardous environment while performing safety processes withing a training session.

A virtual environment, replicating real-life scenario was created. A reactive simulation of the environment was programmed and the guided training was build on top of it.

A companion assessment module was prototyped which demonstrated a system to evaluate trainee performance within a VR simulation.

Outcome

The initial high-detail prototype earning appreciation from BU leadership. This success expanded the project scope, leading to extended team to scale visual fidelity and integrate advanced features.
